A new book for educators is now available from Tent Schools International. This trauma-informed guide, written by occupational therapist Jessica Roost, helps teachers remove barriers to learning for children experiencing symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Children who have been displaced, including resettled refugee children, frequently suffer from PTSD after witnessing or being involved in the violence of war or the aftermath of a natural disaster. The purpose of this guide is to help educators provide this population of children with learning opportunities that will help them reach their full potential.
Jessica Roost is an occupational therapist specializing in pediatric therapy. She received her master’s degree from Western Michigan University and has worked in school, outpatient and residential settings. Jessica is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and is registered with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. She has extensive experience working with children who are recovering from trauma, and has traveled to several countries exploring the treatment of PTSD and other mental illnesses. Jessica lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
