Abeer’s Story

Abeer 2

Abeer, age 10, at her tent school in Lebanon

BEKAA VALLEY, LEBANON – Have you wondered who you are helping when you support our mission for displaced children? When you give to the ministry of Tent Schools International, you are directly impacting children like Abeer, a refugee living in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon.

Abeer is ten years old. She has lived in a tent with her family for four years, since fleeing the war in Syria with her parents and four siblings. During harvest time in the valley, Abeer works the fields to help support her family. Her hours are 7am to 5pm every day, with 30 minutes for lunch. Abeer and refugee children like her are paid $6 for a day’s labor.

Abeer may be displaced, but she is not defeated. She has begun the journey toward a life outside the camps, beyond transience and lack of opportunity. Most refugee children do not have access to education, but Abeer is one of a growing number who are benefiting from a tent school.

When harvest is over, Abeer becomes a serious student whose favorite subject is math. She excels when her teacher pushes her to achieve her academic goals, including the ability to read Arabic, a new skill for her. Abeer is thriving in school, and is now first in her class. Like many Syrians, she comes from a Muslim family. At her tent school, she has been introduced to the love of Jesus for the first time.

You can help more children like Abeer who are missing out on the opportunity to grow and learn, both academically and spiritually. Tent schools are the most efficient, effective way to bring schools to these children, in Jesus’ name.

The need is urgent. On average, a refugee is displaced for 17 years. This is someone’s childhood; it is the span of time that covers a full education. With your renewed or first-time support for this mission, you will empower children who have experienced the trauma of war and the upheaval of their lives – children who are now in great need of the peace and opportunity that a safe, compassionate learning environment can bring.

A tent school in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon

You can do something right now that will impact 50 lives. We begin with 50 precious children in Lebanon who are made in God’s image, who will someday leave these camps equipped to join the rest of us in changing the world in which we live.

Please come alongside them as we establish a new tent school in the Bekaa Valley. Whether or not this school is launched depends on your support, and start-up costs are $5,000. We ask you to pray for this project, and to give if you are able. Together, we can show God’s love to refugee children like Abeer. Thank you for your part in this mission!

Grace and peace.
