Emily joined our team in 2005, first as a website copywriter, then as communications director and later as interim director in 2019. As of 2023, Emily now leads the TSI team as executive director, using her skills in strategic planning and team building as well as in content development and layout for our newsletter, website, print ads and social media.

Emily graduated from Calvin University with a degree in English and a minor in Studio Art. She also completed an internship in communications with the international development organization World Renew. Following graduation, Emily spent a year in Seattle with AmeriCorps and another year in Honduras teaching fourth grade at International School Tegucigalpa.

Growing up in Washington and Iowa, Emily’s favorite subjects in school were English, History and Art. Emily is passionate about human rights, the outdoors, her neighborhood public school, books and traveling with her family. She also likes indie folk, an organized desk, biking, packing light and anything Scandinavian. Emily and her husband, Jonathan, have three children and a dog named Ozzy.
